Japan's Meteorological Agency issued a tsunami warning after an earthquake measuring a magnitude of 6.8 occurred in the Pacific Wednesday afternoon. A 30-centimetre-high tsunami reached Miyake Island, south of Tokyo, at 3:37 p.m. (0637 GMT), after the 3:11 p.m. quake, the agency said. There have been no immediate reports of injuries or damage from the wave nor the quake. The agency said there is a possibility of tsunami with the height of 50 centimeters or higher in some places. The quake's focus was 230 kilometers northeast of Hachijyo Jima Island, about 200 kilometers south of Tokyo. It was barely felt in eastern and northeastern Japan. On Tuesday evening, an earthquake of magnitude 6.4 hit Japan's northernmost prefecture of Hokkaido. One person was slightly injured after the quake, which occurred at 11:09 p.m.
