U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan on Monday visited two of the islands in the Maldives that were worst-hit by last month's tsunami disaster. With 82 people killed, the human toll in the Maldives has been much smaller than in other Asian nations struck by the waves and the Dec. 26 earthquake that spawned them. The overall toll across the region is nearing 160,000. Annan, who met with President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom late Sunday, traveled to the islands of Kolhusushi and Vilusushi by sea plane Monday. "While we need to grieve and mourn for the dead, we also need to think of the survivors and the future. I am glad that the U.N. has been able to work in relief efforts in the Maldives," Annan said after his talks with Gayoom.
