Israeli troops shot and killed on Thursday a member of "Hamas" group who attacked a Jewish settlement in the Gaza Strip, the Israeli army and Palestinian officials said. The member, who was not immediately identified, fired at troops carrying out a routine patrol along the perimeter of the Jewish settlement of Ganei Tal. A gun battle erupted, and the soldiers killed the gunman, the Israeli army said. Hamas sources said the gunman was a member of their group. They said a second gunman escaped.
