Israeli troops shot and killed two Palestinian fighters early Tuesday on an arrest raid in the northern West Bank town of Jenin, the army said. Palestinian witnesses reported heavy exchange of gunfire between Islamic Jihad group fighters and the Israeli soldiers. The group did not immediately identify if its men were those killed, the Associated Press reported. The army said one soldier was lightly wounded in the exchange of fire, which erupted shortly after it surrounded a home of wanted men. The men, armed with weapons and ammunition, tried to escape and were shot down by the troops, the army said. Six people were arrested in the raids, it added.
