U.S. soldiers repelled a heavy insurgent attack against an outpost west of Mosul in northern Iraq, a U.S. military spokesman said Thursday in Baghdad. Early estimates put the number of dead insurgents in Wednesday's attack at 25 after the U.S. soldiers called in air support, the spokesman said. Around 50 insurgents attacked the U.S. position armed with mortars, rocket-propelled grenades and automatic weapons. Fifteen U.S. soldiers were injured in the attack, six of them seriously. One of the soldiers subsequently died in hospital, the U.S. military command said.
