U.S. and Iraqi forces foiled a car bomb attack and detained 17 suspected insurgents in operations in the north of the country, the U.S. command said Saturday. Iraqi police noticed wires sticking out of a car on Friday in Mosul, 360 kilometers (225 miles) northwest of Baghdad, a military statement said. As they tried to investigate, insurgents attacked them with rocket-propelled grenades and small arms fire, the statement said. No one was injured in the ensuing firefight and the car bomb did not go off. U.S. army explosive experts later detonated the car in a controlled blast, the military said.
