An Albanian was killed in the western Macedonian town of Tetovo on Saturday during a police attempt to arrest gunmen blamed for the siege of a village near Skopje earlier this month. The leader of a group, Lirim Jakipi, nicknamed "Nazi", was wounded in the exchange of gunfire, but managed to flee. One police officer was wounded in shootout, and two Albanians were arrested, police said. Some six shoulder-launched rocket-propelled grenades were reportedly fired at police during the action. Kondovo, a village on the western outskirts of Skopje, had been under siege for nearly a month by the gunmen, who declared the area off limits to police.
