Gambia sent 196 troops to Darfur on Monday to help monitor a shaky ceasefire between Sudanese government forces and rebels in the troubled Darfur region, the Ministry of Defense said. The troops are due to stay one year in the region, where the African Union said on Sunday fighting continued despite a ceasefire pledge earlier that day by the Sudanese government. The Gambian troops will join 800 African Union ceasefire monitors already stationed in the region.
