The National eLearning Center (NELC) has published The Criteria for Excellence in Online Learning after conducting a comprehensive international benchmarking; these criteria were approved by the NELC Board of Directors in its 7th meeting chaired by the Minister of Education Dr. Hamed Al Al-Sheikh. The NELC developed and reviewed these criteria of excellence with the participation of several prestigious international institutions including, Online Learning Consortium (OLC), one of the leading institutions in the field, and 40 national and international experts from Korea, China, USA, UK, New Zealand, and other experts from different European countries. In addition to an expert panel from UNESCO. The criteria cover all the main K-12, HE, Vocational Education, and Life-long Learning sectors, in addition to all aspects related to designing and implementing eLearning and training programs, which include blended learning, online course design, virtual classroom, online teaching, program administration, criteria of excellence for institutions, MOOCs, online platforms, video production, and online learning administration. These criteria aim to enhance excellence and leadership in eLearning and training practices and promote competitiveness in service quality and improve learning outcomes. The Criteria for Excellence for all eLearningtraining programs and institutions can be accessed on NELC website. Earlier the NELC had published basic criteria for obtaining the required licenses to enable institutions and programs to provide, govern, and regulate eLearningtraining services, enhance trust in the eLearningtraining programs and outcomes, and promote the sector's efficiency in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to ensure providing sustainable programs, assessing and monitoring the quality in alignment with these criteria that have been developed according to the latest studies.
