Saudi Arabia will train a group of counter-terrorism officers from Taiwan on how to respond to terrorist acts, negotiating with hostage-takers and crisis management. Prince Naif Arab University for Security Sciences in Riyadh will hold a training session in counter terrorism in cooperation with the bureau of investigation of the Taiwanese Ministry of Justice. The three-week course will start tomorrow, and last until Dec. 22. Dr. Abdul Aziz Al-Ghamdi, the university chairman, said the selection of Prince Naif Arab University by a security establishment of international standard is testimony to the high academic and scientific standard and level of training achieved by the university. This move is an appreciation for this Arab institution which managed to occupy a leading position among similar international institutions, he added. Dr. Al-Ghamdi said the course is designed to help the trainees gain more skills and know-how in responding to terrorists acts, negotiations with hostage-takers and crisis management. The participants will also be introduced to the role of Islam in combating terrorism and be briefed on the activities of the university and its experience in the fight against terrorism. They will also be briefed on the efforts of the Council of Arab Ministers of Interior in combating terrorism as well as the Kingdom's experience in this regard. Dr. Al-Ghamdi said the course highlights the importance of international cooperation in the fight against terrorism, especially electronic and cyberspace terrorism. The course covers different kinds of terrorism including the one using explosives and gunfire, biological and chemical terrorism. The role of the media in fighting the menace will also be highlighted.
