Saudi Press: Lebanese Foreign Minister's Insults against Saudi Arabia, its People and GCC Countries are incompatible with the simplest diplomatic norms
Saudi newspapers highlighted in their editorials today a number of issues at local, regional and international arenas. Al-Riyadh, Okaz, and Al-Eqtisadiah newspapers reported in their editorials that the Lebanese Foreign Minister in the caretaker government Charbel Wehbe's disgraceful statements during a television interview, in which he insulted the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, its people and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states are incompatible with the simplest diplomatic norms and inconsistent with the historical relations between the two brotherly peoples. The newspapers added that at a time when news agencies capture and present the miserable situation that people are living there and while the Lebanese people were waiting for their foreign minister to exert further political efforts political to strengthen Lebanon and bring it back to its Arabian roots, especially after the drug trafficking resulted in banning consignments of Lebanese vegetables and fruits from entering into the Kingdom or transit through its territory, Charbel Wehbe statements have undermined the Lebanese-Saudi and Gulf relations. The gravely abusive remarks of the Lebanese Foreign Minister came at a time when the Lebanese Republic needs to strengthen its Arab relations, particularly with the GCC countries, to support Lebanon to overcome its economic and political crises, in addition to the pandemic's crisis, the newspapers further added. The government of the Lebanese Republic and its people are well aware of the Saudi role that has been played to preserve the security and economy of Lebanon, but it seems as if the minister does not realize this fact. From the Lebanese war in 1975 until the Taif Agreement in 1990, the Saudi role was witnessed by all the world. Additionally, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Saudi has provided assistance to the public and private sectors. It also established the Saudi-Lebanese Business Council. In the same context, Al-Yaum newspaper reported in its editorial that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has expressed strong condemnation and denunciation of such disgraceful abuses against the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, its people and the GCC countries. The Ministry summoned the Ambassador of the Lebanese Republic to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to express the Kingdom's rejection and denunciation of the insults issued by the Lebanese Foreign Minister, and he was handed an official protest note in this regard. The newspaper concluded that the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs position with regard to Lebanese Foreign Minister disgraceful statements demonstrates the wise policy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. In another context, Al-Bilad newspaper said in its editorial that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia leads efforts at all levels to support the Palestinian people, urging the international community to shoulder its responsibilities to stop the attacks and escalation perpetrated by the Israeli occupation forces against civilians in Gaza, the West Bank and occupied Jerusalem. The newspaper added that the Saudi firm position in support of the Palestinian people and the Palestinian case has been known since the era of the founder, King Abdulaziz, and until this era, under the leadership of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and His Royal Highness the Crown Prince. The Palestinian case is a top priority for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's and will remain so, until the Palestinian people obtain all their legitimate rights, on top of which is the establishment of independent Palestinian state with east Jerusalem as its capital, the newspaper concluded.
