Lithuania's President Valdas Adamkus on Saturday postponed a trip to Ukraine which was part of international mediation attempts to resolve the political crisis. "The trip has been postponed," presidential adviser Marius Lukosiunas said. "He definitely will not travel to Kiev today." He gave no further details of why the trip was postponed or say when it would take place. Adamkus, 78, a fluent Russian speaker who lived in the United States for most of his adult life, is seen as a figure spanning western and eastern Europe. The latest trip was to be his third to Ukraine in the past 10 days. The president's diplomatic adviser, Valteris Baliukonis, was quoted by the Baltic News Service earlier as saying the visit was pushed back after consultations with Polish President Aleksander Kwasniewski and Ukraine's outgoing president, Leonid Kuchma.
