Hundreds of Pakistanis, deported from Oman for immigration violations, arrived home on two cargo ships Tuesday, immigration and charity officials said. It was the second batch of returnees this month. As many as 1,383 men disembarked at Karachi's harbor after being arrested in Oman for illegal entry, said Abdul Sattar, an inspector with the Federal Investigation Agency, which handles immigration issues. He said the men will be freed after brief questioning. Sari Burney, spokesman for the Ansar Burney Welfare Trust, which assisted in the repatriation, told reporters that about 36,000 Pakistanis have been deported by Oman since June 2003.
