The Technical and Service Affairs Agency at the General Presidency of the Two Holy Mosques Affairs performs service works at the Grand Holy Mosque through using up-to-date techniques of sterilization and disinfection, as part of the leadership's interest in the Two Holy Mosques and their visitors. The agency performs several tasks, such as cleaning the roof of the Holy Kaaba, sterilizing the Holy Kaaba's Kiswa (cover), disinfecting and polishing Hijr Ismail, stone lanterns, Shatharwan (marble skirting around the base of the Holy Kaaba), Al-Multazim (part of the eastern wall of Kaaba), in addition to scenting the Black Stone, Al-Rukn Al-Yamani and Maqam Ibrahim. Mohammad Jabiri, Assistant President General for Technical and Service Affairs, said that the agency uses modern devices and techniques to preserve the quality of marble, remove dust residues, maintain the cleanliness of the Holy Kaaba in particular and the Grand Holy Mosque in general within a time duration that does not exceed 20 minutes through a national specialized technical team, noting that these tasks are periodic missions implemented by the presidency according to a fixed timetable with the use of modern cleaning techniques.
