An official in the Iraqi Communist party was assassinated northeast of Baghdad, a party spokesman said Saturday. Munir Jabar was returning home late Friday when unknown gunmen opened fire on him in the town of Buhriz , about 55 kilometers (35 miles) northeast of Baghdad, said the party official in Baqouba who identified himself as Abu Adel. Jabar was the head of a committee responsible of coordinating with other political parties in Diala province. Two weeks ago, a prominent Communist Party official was gunned down with two of his bodyguards north of Baghdad.
