Chinese rescuers were searching Sunday for 57 miners still trapped by a fire in a complex of iron mines, after 40 miners had been pulled to safety and nine were confirmed dead, state media said. The blaze broke out Saturday morning at the mines in Shahe, a city in northern China's Hebei province, the official Xinhua News Agency reported. It said 106 miners were working underground at the time, and 40 had been rescued by Sunday afternoon _ up from 19 earlier in the day.
