Denmark and southern Sweden were buffeted by strong winds early Thursday that caused power cuts in several locations including Odense, Denmark's third largest city. There were no initial reports of any people suffering serious injury. Several ferry services across the Baltic were cancelled due to the strong winds, including the link to the Danish island Bornholm. Car traffic was also suspended on the 7.8-kilometre long Oresund Bridge that links Denmark and Sweden, and the 18-kilometre long Great Belt Bridge in Denmark. Power and telephone lines were cut off by falling trees also in southern Sweden. Further north, the storm winds dumped 10-15 centimeters of snow, causing traffic problems in cities like Gothenburg and Stockholm. Trucks with trailers that skidded off motorways or blocked lanes, forced traffic to a virtual standstill in several locations in western Sweden as well, reports said.
