Abdulrahman bin Hamad Alatiyyah, the Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, expressed deep sorrow at the death of President Yassir Arafat of Palestine, and shared sympathy with his family and the Palestinian people on the sad demise of the Palestinian leader who passed away earlier today in Paris. In a statement issued by the Riyadh-based Secretariat General of the GCC, Alatiyyah appealed to Almighty Allah to bestow the soul of Arafat and reward him a residence in paradise. He also conveyed his condolences to the Arab and Islamic nations on this sad accident. He urged the Palestinian people to resort to unity to achieve their goals of liberty, independence, end of occupation, and establishment of an independent state with Alquds as its capital.
