Baqouba police arrested two separate terrorist cells suspected of carrying out several attacks against police, officials said Sunday, as leaflets were being distributed throughout the central Iraqi city warning government offices to stay closed till Nov. 3. Gen. Walid al-Azzawi, commander of the Diyala provincial police, did not specify the number of people detained Saturday, but added that weapons caches were also confiscated during the raid. Meanwhile, leaflets have been seen in Baqouba since Saturday threatening to "destroy all state facilities that do not abide by this warning and their employees will be deemed as agents to the occupation forces." The warning also applies to Iraqi police and national guards, the statement said. It warned citizens not to leave their homes. Health institutions were exempt from the threat, it said. "The stability in Iraq leads to the stability of the occupation forces and their agents. Such stability will lead to the wiping out of this Islamic country( Iraq) ," the statement said. The leaflets were signed by a group calling itself the General Command of the Resistance in Iraq.
