Saudi newspapers highlighted in their editorials today a number of issues at local, regional and international arenas. Al-Riyadh newspaper reported in its editorial that the economy of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia continues to accomplish qualitative achievements since it was rebuilt on new foundations and perspectives, the most prominent of which is reliance on sustainable economic sectors, not including the oil sector. The newspaper said that the Japan Institute of International Monetary Affairs (IIMA) issued a recent study entitled " Saudi Finance Moving Towards Non-Dependence on Oil" which indicated that the financial and economic reforms implemented by Saudi Arabia's government within its vision 2030 enabled the economy to face difficult situations, especially with the decline in oil prices and the outbreak of Coronavirus pandemic. IIMA report commended Saudi Arabia's steps towards achieving an increase in its non-oil revenues, specifically from the industry and tourism sectors, the paper added. The newspaper concluded that, shortly after the announcement of the Kingdom's Vision 2030, Saudi Arabia's non-oil revenues increased by 78.7% from SAR 186 billion to SAR 332.4 billion, as the average annual increase during this period hits 22%. IIMA report recommended that as Saudi Arabia continues to maintain at the same pace, it will achieve its goal of increasing its non-oil revenue to SAR one trillion by 2030. In another context, Okaz and Al-Yaum newspapers said in their editorials that the digital transformation, which is one of the main pillars of achieving the Kingdom's Vision 2030, has become a part of all development projects in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The newspapers added that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's speech, delivered by the third secretary of Saudi Arabia's Permanent Mission to the United Nations, Reem bint Fahad Al-Omair, at the general discussion of "economic and environmental issues ... harnessing science and technology for development purposes", affirmed the Kingdom's determination towards its commitment to achieving the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals and achieving effective digital transformation. The speech confirmed that the digital transformation program in Saudi Arabia aims to build a digital society and create digital platforms to enrich effective community interaction and participation in a way that contributes to improving industry development and competitiveness and positively affecting the economic situation. The newspapers concluded by stressing that Saudi Arabia pays great attention to the field of communications and information technology, as digital technology has become a fundamental tool in our societies, and the technology sector in Saudi Arabia has witnessed over the past years qualitative leaps at the level of digital infrastructure, digital capacity development, and mega digital projects.
