Insurgents opened fire Friday on a Turkish truck carrying bottled water in the northern city of Mosul, killing the driver, while a car bomb hit a U.S. convoy, according to police and the U.S. military said. The truck driver was killed and his vehicle burst into flames, according to eyewitnesses and Mosul police. It was unclear whether the driver was Turkish. The attack on the U.S. patrol occurred about 1 p.m. (1000GMT) on the southside of the city, causing minor injuries to two U.S. soldiers, said Capt. Angela Bowman with Task Force Olympia. Iraqi police told the U.S. military that the attack killed one Iraqi civilian and wounded two others. However, officials at al-Jumhouri hospital said only two Iraqis were injured in the attack. Witnesses said several cars nearby caught fire. Mosul is located 360 kilometers (225 miles) northwest of Baghdad.
