Acting Minister of Media: Saudi Arabia has Given Great Attention to Cases of Trafficking in Persons
Published in Saudi Press Agency on 30 - 07 - 2020

Acting Minister of Media Dr. Majid bin Abdullah Al-Qasabi has affirmed that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has given great attention to trafficking in persons cases in order to prevent human trafficking and its practicing on Saudi land through the enactment of internal laws and regulations, and Saudi Arabia's accession to international instruments related to combating trafficking in persons.
This came in a speech by the Minister on the occasion of the World Day against Trafficking in Persons, which falls on 30 July each year.
Dr. Al-Qasabi said that the phenomenon of trafficking in persons is an outrageous insult to human dignity and is contempt for human and religious morals and values, as trafficking in persons is one of the most heinous crimes that violate human rights and deprives the human freedom and dignity, and it is prohibited in all religions, constitutions and global covenants.
He added that, in compliance with the provisions of the Islamic Sharia, which prohibit all forms of insult to human dignity, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia attaches great importance to trafficking in persons cases in order to prevent it from happening on its land. In 1430 AH, a royal decree of Anti-Trafficking in Persons Law was issued. The articles and regulations included in the law represented a clear declaration to the continuation of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to follow the late founder King Abdulaziz bin Abdulrahman Al Saud's principles that respect the sanctity and dignity of humans, affirming the principle of social equality.
Today, the interest and commitment of the government of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense to the approach of the late founder King Abdulaziz Al Saud is represented by launching the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's ambitious 2030 Vision for sustainable development. The Kingdom's Vision 2030 made human dignity and its preservation its priority . Saudi Arabia's keenness to combat human trafficking crimes is represented in enacting internal laws and regulations, and its accession to international instruments related to combating human trafficking, he added.
There is no doubt that the media sector has an effective and influential role in reducing and combating trafficking in persons, in addition to its great responsibility towards this phenomenon. Media is also concerned with raising awareness, educating the community, dissemination information and introducing legislation and laws criminalizing trafficking in persons and its negative effects on society. This necessitates the media message to have professional and scientific standards and above all ethical, especially in light of the increasing global conflicts, which led to a marked rise in crimes of trafficking in persons, Acting Minister of Media added.
