The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia stressed necessity of enhancing international cooperation in all relevant fields relating to the protection of victims trafficking in persons' crimes of and to prosecute the perpetrators of these crimes. This came in a speech delivered today by the Kingdom's representative to the United Nations in Geneva Ambassador Faisal bin Hassan Trad. He stressed importance of developing anti-crime mechanisms in coordination and exchanging information between the concerned authorities in the states in parallel with awareness and education efforts of danger of this crime. Ambassador Trad said that the government of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud based on the principles of Islamic Sharia (law) bans all pictures of trafficking in persons, "the Kingdom joined to prevent and punish human trafficking, especially women and children, through the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime," he added. "Due to importance of creating national legislation towards combating various forms of this crime, the Government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has issued a special regulation to combat trafficking in persons based on the Royal Decree no. (M/40) dated on 14/07/2009 which came in line with international and regional standards to combat crimes of trafficking in persons," Trad said. Ambassador Trad pointed out a formation of a national committee in the Human Rights Commission to combat trafficking in persons. He also highlighted that the security authorities prosecute the perpetrators of trafficking crimes and bring them to justice.
