KSrelief, FAO Rehabilitate Fish Landing Center in Taiz Governorate
Published in Saudi Press Agency on 21 - 07 - 2020

King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief), in cooperation with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), inaugurated the Fish Landing Center in the districts of Dhubab and Al-Makha in Taiz Governorate, after its rehabilitation and preparation, as part of the activities of emergency support project for agricultural livelihoods of the most affected families in Yemen.
KSrelief aims to improve the living conditions of more than 8,400 families close to the fishing communities that depend on the sea to secure their livelihoods and to help alleviate the sufferings of fishermen, as it will enable them to practice fishing from close and safe landing centers instead of traveling for long distances to far landing centers.
The rehabilitated facilities will provide a suitable workplace for marketing fish products and protecting them from pollution or damage through the provision of solar-powered cold stores. The developed cold chain aims to enhance the level of production and income of fishermen, which will contribute to reducing high rates of malnutrition, especially among children and pregnant women in the targeted coastal areas.
" The economic situation will improve in the coastal regions of the Republic of Yemen, which is home to about three million people, which will lead to an improvement in the lives of many Yemeni families with the return of more fish assets to service," said FAO Resident Representative in Yemen Dr. Hussein Jadin.
It is noteworthy that the fisheries sector in Yemen plays a critical role in food security, as the sector provides food, livelihoods and permanent income.
The emergency support project for agricultural livelihoods for the most affected families in Yemen is implemented by KSrelief in six governorates. It aims to enhance food security and livelihoods for 70,000 families in Yemen through three types of assistance interventions, including poultry production, monetary support, improving animal and agricultural production in addition to improving the living conditions of the affected groups living in coastal areas of Yemen by rehabilitating the productive infrastructure of fisheries.
