Ten people were killed Friday and 27 others injured when a passenger bus plunged into a ravine in the southern Philippines, police said. Superintendent Ramon Ochotorena said the bus was negotiating a curve on a hilly highway in Lakewood town in Zamboanga del Sur province, 810 kilometres south of Manila, when the accident occured. "A portion of the road caved in, plunging the bus carrying 37 people into a 20-foot ravine," he said. "Villagers who helped the passengers reported that 10 people died in the freak accident." Ochotorena said 16 of the injured passengers had to be rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment, while others who only suffered minor injuries continued their journey to nearby Pagadian City.
