Two members of the British aid organization Save the Children were killed by a landmine in Sudan's northern Darfur crisis region, a spokeswoman for the charity said Tuesday. The men, a British and a Sudanese national, had been on a reconnaissance drive near Um Barro, the spokeswoman said. Their driver was seriously injured in the blast. It was the first time that a European aid worker died in the crisis region which has been embroiled in violence for 20 months. United Nations Special Envoy Jan Prok expressed his condolences over the deaths, and said the two men had been in the area to help the people in need in Darfur.
