Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture Eng. Abdulrahman bin Abdulmohsen Al-Fadhly, said that the food security strategy in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has succeeded after surpassing the disturbance in the supply chains that affected the food supply globally, as the majority of the countries of the world suffered from the impact of the food supply chains. He said that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has presented a great model in implementing the food security strategy, in cooperation with the private sector, and responsible consumption from sales outlets, indicating that this was the result of institutional work that the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture (MEWA) started more than 4 years ago, and reaped its fruits during the current crisis. The Minister emphasized that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, under the leadership of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and HRH Crown Prince, has paid great care and attention to the agricultural sector and its workers through the continuous support and the adoption of food security strategies of the Kingdom's vision 2030, which contributed to enhancing food security with appropriate quality and prices during the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Eng. Al-Fadhly pointed out that the increase in the volume of lending provided by the Agricultural Development Fund to Saudi farmers reached one billion and 900 million riyals in 2019, contributing to the growth of the agricultural sector and the increase in the number of workers in this vital sector.
