Saudi Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture and Chairman of General Assembly of the Islamic Organization for Food Security Engineer Abdulrahman Al-Fadley has announced the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's providing 2 million US dollars to the Organization to contribute to enhancing its work and providing capabilities, calling on member states to adopt food security strategy for all member states. He said during his speech at the opening of the Second Session of the General Assembly of the Islamic Organization for Food Security in Jeddah today that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia attaches great importance to agricultural development, environment and food security in all its policies emanating from its contributions to national, regional and global food security. For his part, Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Dr. Yousef bin Ahmed Al-Othaimeen said that the Organization is working to implement a comprehensive policy to develop agricultural products and food security, and improve Islamic environmental cooperation in food and agriculture sectors. He added that food security is one of the highest priorities of the OIC that is particularly important given that the economies of the majority of the Member States are based on agriculture, with agriculture accounting for about 12% of the Member States' GDP. The Secretary General expressed his thanks to the Government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia under the leadership of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and HRH Crown Prince for hosting this meeting. He also commended the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's contribution of US $ 2 million to support the Islamic Organization for Food Security.
