The Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) held an extraordinary virtual meeting of the ministers responsible for cultural affairs in the Arab world, with the participation of 20 Arab countries. The Director General of ALECSO Mohamed Ould Aamar praised the efforts by all Arab countries to confront COVID-19 pandemic and limit its repercussions, pointing out that ALECSO launched, immediately after the health crisis, a number of initiatives to limit its repercussions on the cultural sector, the most important of which is the development of an interactive platform and making it available to intellectuals and people interested in art and creativity in the Arab world to exchange views and experiences. The meeting called on Arab countries to accelerate the completion of the digital transformation project, employ artificial intelligence and advanced technologies to produce cultural content, support cultural and creative industries, and expand the sharing of cultural resources online, and via social networks and electronic platforms. The meeting also stressed the necessity of reviewing Arab laws and legislations related to intellectual property and copyright in light of the developments of modern digital technologies and their diverse uses. The ministers reviewed the most important measures taken by their countries to confront the crisis and their future plans for the post-Coronavirus crisis.
