‘Innovate for a green future' ... a theme for World Intellectual Property Day
Published in Saudi Press Agency on 25 - 04 - 2020

The member states of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) celebrate the World Intellectual Property Day (World IP Day), which is observed on April 26 each year. The World IP Day aims at educating society on intellectual property (IP), promoting IP role in encouraging creativity and enhancing innovation, and addressing common global challenges.
This year's World IP Day theme, " innovate for a green future", emphasizes the need to strive towards a sustainable and low-carbon economy. WIPO and it's member states participate by celebrating many inventors and creators around the world who are looking forward to a green future as they work to create innovative solutions to replace old technologies that rely heavily on natural resources with renewable and sustainable modern green technologies and innovations.
Intellectual property in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is generously sponsored by the leadership to enhance the position of innovation and creativity with the aim of outreaching the economic, social and cultural development through a balanced and effective international IP ecosystem.
The CEO of the Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property (SAIP) Dr. Abdulaziz bin Muhammad AlSwailem stressed that in light of the Corona pandemic and the precautionary measures undertaken by Saudi Arabia, SAIP will contribute this year through its virtual channels to spread awareness among members of society and institutions in Saudi Arabia through discussion workshops, educational videos and events for children and adults across SAIP platforms to emphasize the IP role in encouraging innovation and creativity to contribute to a green future in line with the Royal directions of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud - may God protect him - and His Highness Prince Muhammad bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud - may Allah protect him - and the great support for the upcoming programs and plans of SAIP to stimulate innovation and creativity in all IP areas of in Saudi Arabia.
It is worth mentioning that Saudi Arabia joined the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in 1982 and SAIP is a the representing member at WIPO to maintain and develop the various intellectual property fields, which is reflected in a positive return on intellectual property activities in Saudi Arabia.
