The first meeting for Saudi intellectuals began its deliberations here on Saturday. Addressing the inaugural session, Mohammed Riza Nasrallah, the Secretary General of the Consultative Commission for Culture, said the participants of the meeting include persons of various specialties. The meeting's first session, which discussed libraries and publishing industry, was chaired by Dr Abbas Tashkandi. Dr Ahmad Al-Dubeib, a member of the Consultative Commission for Culture, delivered a paper on public libraries in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. On his part, Abdullah Abdel-Majed delivered a paper on the industry of publication. Meanwhile, Dr Abdulaziz Al-Obeikan delivered a paper on the cultural integration and its machineries. Abdulaziz Al-Kassem also delivered a paper on the legislative infrastructure for the Saudi cultural development. The second session of the meeting, chaired by Dr Mohammed Al-Rabee, the Head of Riyadh Literary Club, dealt with topics relating to industrialization in fields of information and culture. The papers delivered at the second session included a paper delivered by Iman Al-Quweifili, a journalist, on proposals pertaining to the establishment of cultural periodicals.
