Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the United Nations, Ambassador Abdullah bin Yahya Al-Muallami, participated here today in Security Council's session on the situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian cause, in the presence of United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. During the session, the situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian cause was discussed after the United States announced the peace plan, known as the "Deal of the Century" on January 28. Ambassador Al-Muallami was briefed by the President of State of Palestine Mahmoud Abbas on the position of Palestine towards the US peace initiative. Ambassador Al-Muallami was also briefed on the speech of the Secretary General of Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, and to the joint statement of the members of the European Union countries in the Security Council, Belgium, France, Estonia, Germany and Poland, along with the statements made in this regard. Ambassador Al-Muallami had repeatedly affirmed in several previous occasions in the United Nations and its affiliated agencies the Saudi Arabia's firm position in supporting the Palestinian cause, as well as the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people in accordance with international references and relevant Security Council resolutions.
