In presence of Minister of Energy, preparatory meeting for clean energy and mission of innovation (CEM11 / MI5) concluded with participation of 24 countries
On the sidelines of the Kingdom's hosting of the G20's activities, the preparatory meeting for the Clean Energy and Innovation Mission (CEM11 / MI5), in which 24 countries in addition to the European Union participated and was organized by the Ministry of Energy from February 1 to 5, was concluded in Riyadh in the presence of Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, the Minister of Energy. The meeting of (the innovation mission) discussed accelerating innovation in clean energy technologies to reach sustainable development goals as well as climate change, and ways to multiply investments in research and development and innovation in the field of clean energy, and working with the private sector to increase its investments in this field. A workshop was held to review Saudi innovations in clean energy with the participation of the Ministry of Energy, King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology, Saudi Aramco and SABIC. During the workshop, research and development activities and innovation in the field of carbon capture techniques and reuse in solar cell technologies were presented, as well as a presentation on carbon circular economy and another presentation on hydrogen extraction techniques, and discussion of research outputs with researchers and attendees. During the meeting, the kingdom reviewed its G20 presidency program and its research and development efforts. These meetings are preparatory for the ministerial meeting scheduled for June in the Republic of Chile, while the Kingdom will hold the ministerial meeting for the year 2021 AD in Riyadh.
