President of the Human Rights Commission (HRC) Dr. Awwad bin Saleh Al-Awwad met here today with President of Human Rights Council for 2020 Ambassador Elisabeth. During the meeting, they discussed prospects for strengthening cooperation between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Human Rights Council in the various human rights fields. Al-Awwad reviewed the efforts of the Kingdom under the leadership of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and His Royal Highness the Crown Prince in protecting and promoting human rights through laws, legislations and measures that have brought fundamental and qualitative reforms through 60 decisions that made the Kingdom the top reformer and top improver in empowering women according to the World Bank's ranking in the report "Women, Business, and Law 2020". Al-Awwad stressed that the Kingdom works to achieve a sustainable development, sovereignty of law, justice and equality. He highlighted a danger of politicizing human rights, calling upon the Human Rights Council to adopt constant calls for the international community to unify efforts in the field of human rights and to avoid politicization. Dr. Al-Awwad affirmed that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia welcome cooperation in the field of human rights with the various bodies, committees and mechanisms of the United Nations.
