Iraqi elections should go ahead as planned in January despite mounting violence unless the United Nations says it is not feasible, interim President Ghazi al-Yawar said on Tuesday. "It is a challenge to have the elections on time," Yawar said after talks with NATO Secretary-General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer on a day when another bomb in central Baghdad killed at least 47 people. "Unless the U.N. says it is impossible to hold it, we're going to hold it at that time." The NATO chief said the 26-member alliance would try to make a quick decision on providing military training for the new Iraqi forces following the return of a fact-finding mission to Baghdad this month. --SP 1816 Local Time 1516 GMT
