Spanish champions Barcelona signed Atletico Madrid striker Antoine Griezmann by paying his 120 million euro (135 million dollars) buy-out clause on Friday, dpa reported. The French forward, 28, joins on a five-year deal, until June 2024, with an 800-million-euro release clause. Griezmann announced he was leaving Atletico at the end of last season and Spanish media linked him with a move to the Catalans for several months. The striker rejected a move to Barcelona last summer, choosing to stay at Atletico for one more season. "Griezmann is one of the best players in the world," said Barcelona in a statement. He arrives at Barcelona after an impressive career in the Spanish league during his time at Real Sociedad and Atletico Madrid. "The French forward can play in all the attacking positions, although his tendency is to play on the left side."
