Nine people have died and three were missing and feared drowned in France after two days of storms marked by high winds, rescue workers said Thursday. Five people drowned Tuesday after ignoring a ban on swimming in the Mediterranean Sea which was imposed because high winds had created treacherous conditions off the southern French coast. A 60-year-old woman was killed Wednesday while swimming off the Atlantic coast near the city of Nantes and a 67-year-old man died while sailing on Saint-Point lake in eastern France after a strong gust capsized his boat.
