The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd bin Abdulaziz chaired today the cabinet's weekly session at Al-Salam palace in Jeddah. In a statement to the Saudi Press Agency following the session, the Minister of Culture and Information Dr. Fuad bin Abdulsalam Alfarsi said that following the events in Iraq, the Cabinet expressed deep sorrow for the security deterioration in some areas of Iraq, resulting in the death and injury of innocent citizens. The cabinet called for a greater role for the United Nations in ending the bloodshed. The cabinet hoped that the current national conference will result in ending fighting and in focusing on a political solution that will restore to Iraq its sovereignty and stability to enable all the people of Iraq to support the Iraqi government with the hope that calm, security and stability can prevail again in the country. On the Palestinian question, King Fahd stressed the importance of a decisive international stand ensuring Palestinian rights and resumption of the peace process. As for Sudan, the cabinet expressed appreciation for the great efforts made by the Sudanese government to contain the crisis in Darfur. --MORE 2035 Local Time 1735 GMT
