President Gen. Pervez Musharraf vowed to crush foreign terrorists in Pakistan as the Islamic country marked the 57th anniversary of its independence from British rule on Saturday despite reported threats of attack. On the eve of the anniversary, Musharraf appealed to Pakistanis to reject extremism and intolerance and "fight off elements who want to push Pakistan into darkness." "Some foreign elements are engaged in terrorist activities in Pakistan while some of our own people are fanning sectarian hatred," he said at a musical concert held at the presidential palace late Friday. "I am confident that the government, with the active collaboration of people, would crush such forces." --MORE 1409 Local Time 1109 GMT
