Authorities briefly evacuated part of Rome's main international airport on Wednesday after an apparently false alarm at the check-in desk of Israeli airline El Al, a local news agency reported. Authorities in Italy have heightened security following repeated but unverified terror threats against the country that have appeared on the Internet. The ANSA news agency said the alarm was set off at one terminal of Rome's Leonardo da Vinci airport because of suspicions about a passenger's shoes. About 15 minutes later, passengers were allowed to re-enter the airport, it said. Few details were immediately available.
