Pakistan Foreign Secretary Riaz Khokhar has left for Khartoum as special envoy of President General Pervez Musharraf to deliver his message to President Omar Hasan Ahmad Al-Bashir of Sudan, an official statement said. Musharraf has recently been making strenuous efforts for the resolution of the humanitarian crisis in Darfur, the statement said. It added that before the adoption of Security Council Resolution 1556 on the situation in Darfur, Musharraf had spoken with the Sudanese President, UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, and US Secretary of State Colin Powell to create space for the implementation of the July 3 joint Communiqué signed by the Sudanese government and the United Nations. Musharraf had called for implementation of the joint commitments to ensure humanitarian access, political dialogue and security, the statement said. The Security Council Resolution (1556) was adopted on July 30 last. In the context of this resolution as well as in view of the evolving situation, Khokhar will convey a special message from Musharraf to the Sudanese president.
