The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has affirmed its keenness to move forward towards the promotion and protection of human rights and the achievement of sustainable development in accordance with the principles of the Islamic Sharia and its regulations, as well as its commitment to regional and international human rights conventions. This came in a speech delivered by Dr. Bandar Al-Aiban, President of the Human Rights Commission, in the meetings of the Human Rights Council in Geneva during the discussion of the 3rd Kingdom's report within the Universal Periodic Review mechanism. He stated that the 3rd national report on the human rights situation in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, submitted under the Universal Periodic Review mechanism, was prepared according to a methodology based on the integration of roles between relevant government agencies, and the extensive national consultation with civil society institutions, and individuals concerned in Human Rights issues in accordance with the principles of Human Rights Council resolution 1/5/2007. The Human Rights Commission's President commended the Saudi Government's Keenness particularly on considering recommendations issued by the treaty agencies and the universal periodic review mechanism in the light of its plans and policies aimed at achieving these goals, topped by the KSA's Vision 2030 and taking necessary legislative and institutional measures, promotion of awareness of human rights, supporting the participation of civil society institutions and the promotion of regional and international cooperation in the field of human rights. Dr. Al-Aiban stressed the Kingdom's continued support for the Yemeni people and its legitimate government upon its request after the aggression committed by Houthi Coup Militias on Yemen, the legitimate government, its institutions and the Yemeni people. On Syria, he affirmed that since the outbreak of its crisis, the Kingdom has received about 2.5 million Syrian citizens, and has endeavored to preserve their dignity and safety and granted them freedom of movement along with regular residence for those who wished to stay, and providing them with all the rights of free health care and available opportunities to engage in the labor market and getting education. Dr. Al-Aiban stressed that the Kingdom has accelerated the pace of protecting and promoting human rights during the past years, which witnessed qualitative changes and radical reforms in this regard.
