Surgical team specializing in organ transplantation, at King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center, succeeded here today, in transplanting a heart and lungs together for a Saudi patient, at the same time, in a qualitative process that is only performed for the second time in the Middle East, after 14 years of similar transplantation by the hospital in 2004 The 17 Year old patient suffered from congenital heart defects since birth which led to heart failure and pulmonary failure in recent years. The patient's use of oxygen system required constant concentration, and his inability to move completely prevented him from continuing to study and practice his life, in a natural way. General Supervisor of the General Establishment of King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center, Dr. Majid Al Fayyad, expressed happiness with the success of the medical teams, in carrying out the complicated operation to save the life of the patient, who was suffering from the years of birth until he reached a stage of the disease that threatens his survival. This reflects the prowess of the hospital's infrastructure, as well as the availability of qualified medical, nursing, pharmacy and laboratory staff and highly qualified teams., in all relevant domains.
