Marine Patrols of the Border Guards in Makkah Region rescued yesterday a 62 year old Russian sailor of the ship (Seastar Endeavour) raising Malta's flag, which was headed to Suez Port, after suffering a medical emergency, within the framework of the Border Guards' execution of humanitarian operations of search and rescue, and their roles in the International Convention on Maritime Search and Rescue 1979. Official Spokesman of Border Guards Commodore Saher bin Mohammed Al-Harbi said that Joint Marine Rescue Coordination Center's Red Sea and Gulf of Aqaba Commission (JMRCC) led by Border Guards of Makkah Region received an E-Mail stating that a ship crew member was in an emergency condition requiring an urgent evacuation to receive medical care, where the Border Guards immediately identified the ship and started coordinating with the relevant authorities to implement the national plan for facing marine disasters in the waters of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as required in such cases. Commodore Al-Harbi pointed out that the patient was evacuated to the services dock at Jeddah Islamic Port and transferred by ambulance to a hospital in Jeddah to complete the necessary treatment and procedures in such cases.
