The government condemned the ongoing Israeli violations against the Al-Aqsa Mosque and allowing extremists into the courtyards of the Al-Aqsa Mosque on a daily basis under the protection of Israeli police. In a statement issued today, Jordanian State Minister for Media Affairs and Government Spokesperson Mohammad Momani added that Jewish religious days have unfortunately become occasions for increasing tension in al-Haram al-Sharif, violating the sanctity of the holy sites and a provocation to Muslims. "These acts violate all international norms and charters that emphasize the need to respect places of worship for all religions and violate Israel's obligations as the occupying power," he said. Momani stressed the need to immediately stop such provocative measures, preserve the historical status and respect the Jordanian role towards holy sites in East Jerusalem, which was recognized by the peace treaty between the two countries.
