Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al-Zayani received here today a delegation of European Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee, headed by Committee Chairman David McAllister, currently on a visit to the Kingdom. The Secretary General welcomed the delegation, stressing the strong relations between the GCC and the European Union (EU) and the keenness of the two sides to strengthen them to serve the common interests. He affirmed the importance of the EU vital role in preserving the security and stability of the region. For his part, the head of the European parliamentary delegation expressed the EU appreciation for the GCC regional and international role and status, stressing the EU's interest in strengthening its relations with the GCC in various fields. During the meeting, they discussed the joint GCC-European cooperation and coordination relations and ways of developing them in all fields to serve the common interests of the two sides. They also discussed developments of the political situation in the region and issues of common concern. The meeting was attended by EU Ambassador to the GCC states Michele Cervone D'urso and GCC Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs and Negotiations Dr. Abdulaziz bin Hamad Aluwaisheg.
