Kuwait's suspension from international football has been lifted after more than two years, the ruling body FIFA said on Wednesday. FIFA said the decision came after the Gulf country adopted a new and amended sports law which is compliant with FIFA statutes and without any kind of government interference in football matters. The ban had been in effect since October 2015, denying Kuwait playing in qualifying for the next World Cup and Asian Cup. Kuwait is also suspended by the International Olympic Committee but its athletes could compete as independent athletes at the Rio 2016 Games.
