Alexander Gauland, the parliamentary co-leader of the far-right Alternative for Germany party, will also be co-leader of the overall party, alongside returning co-leader Joerg Meuthen, according to dpa. Gauland had initially not thrown his hat into the ring for the second spot. However, after two rounds of voting for the position were inconclusive, the two other candidates - Doris von Sayn-Wittgenstein and Georg Pazderski - stepped aside. Gauland was then elected to the spot with 68 per cent of the vote. Meuthen was earlier elected to the other co-leader position unopposed, garnering 72 per cent of the vote from members attending the party's congress.
