Sixteen fighters from the reactivated Congolese rebel movement M23 have been killed during two days of fighting with the army in the east of the country, a military spokesman said Thursday. According to dpa, five rebels were also captured and 58 surrendered in the Rutshuru territory of North Kivu province. One government soldier was wounded, army spokesman Guillaume Ndjike Kaiko said. The United Nations estimated that the fighting displaced more than 100,000 people.
