Sixteen people have been killed in fighting between the army and rebel groups in eastern Congo, the army said Wednesday, according to dpa. Fighting has raged since Sunday in Masisi territory in North Kivu province after a coalition comprising the Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda (FDLR) - a Rwandan Hutu group operating in Congo - and two local militias attacked army positions, military spokesman Guillaume Ndjike Kaiko said. The fatalities comprised 12 rebels and four soldiers, according to Kaiko.
